UPM have taken significant steps towards a new direction for road traffic with UPM Biofuels. These steps have included developing an innovative renewable diesel and commencing commercial production. In the spring of 2015, UPM:s renewable diesel fuel, UPM BioVerno, became available to consumers.
UPM Biorefining consists of UPM Pulp, UPM Timber and UPM Biofuels businesses and wood sourcing and forestry operations of UPM. The Business Area turnover is approximately two billion EUR. UPM has three pulp mills in Finland and one mill and plantation operations in Uruguay. UPM operates four sawmills in Finland.
UPM’s biorefinery producing wood-based renewable diesel started up in early 2015. Its main customers are tissue, speciality paper and board producers in the pulp industry, fuel distributors in the biofuel industry and construction and joinery industries in the timber sector. The business area of biofuels is an important part for the Group and the Finnish economy.

Marko Janhunen is responsible for stakeholder relations at UPM Biorefining. The Biorefining Stakeholder Relations team manages broad range of issues relating to sustainability, forest certification, internal and external communications, marketing communications, mill communications and public affairs.
Marko has been working on public policy issues related to sustainability, environmental and energy issues, public policy and corporate responsibility for almost 20 years with experience from all continents. Marko is board member and previous Chair of Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels (LSB).
